Filling in for Pastor Jed, Dallas Dollens delivered a message detailing five lessons to learn from the Matt Maher song “Lord I Need You.”  Dallas used verses from 1 Peter, Psalms, 2 Corinthians, Matthew, 2 Thessalonians, Romans, Colossians, and Ephesians.

Lord I Need You

Lesson #1

God is Our Rest – “Lord I come, I confess, bowing here, I find my rest”

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.— 1 Peter 5:6-7

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.— Psalms 23:4-6

16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.— 2 Corinthians 4:16

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.— Matthew 11:28

Lesson #2

God Guides Our Hearts – “Without you I fall apart, You’re the one who guides my heart”

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.— Psalms 23:1-3

3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.— 2 Thessalonians 3:3-5

Lesson #3

God’s Grace Overcomes Our Sin – “Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more”

18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.— Romans 5:18-21

13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.— Colossians 2:13-14

Lesson #4

God’s Word Overcomes Temptation – “Teach my song to rise to You, when temptation comes my way”

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He [a]then became hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”— Matthew 4:1-4

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.— Ephesians 6:10-17

Lesson #5

We Need God – “Lord I need you”

Life without Jesus is like… baseball without the ball.
